Richard Branson is a world-renowned entrepreneur, philanthropist, and global icon. He’s the founder of the Virgin Group, a holding company that contains more than 500 companies in over 30 countries.

Branson was born in 1950 and began his entrepreneurial career at the age of 16 as he launched a youth-culture magazine called The Student. From there, he went on to start a record company, which later became known as Virgin Records. In 1972, Branson opened a recording studio in Oxfordshire and released the first Virgin Records single “Tubular Bells,” which was later used as the soundtrack for the hit movie, The Exorcist.

Branson went on to found the Virgin Atlantic airline in 1984, and this was the start of a major aviation empire, which he later expanded to include other airlines Virgin Australia, Virgin America, and Virgin Nigeria. Outside of his aviation interests, Branson is also the owner of Virgin Galactic, a private spaceflight company that is working on developing space tourism technology.
